Abel Ferreira has extended his contract with Palmeiras until the end of 2025, bringing joy to Palmeiras fans and causing concern among rivals who have grown accustomed to seeing the Portuguese manager lift trophies in Brazil. Entering his fifth season with the club, should he remain until the conclusion of his new contract, Abel would surpass Oswaldo Brandão, becoming the coach with the longest consecutive tenure in the club’s history with six seasons.
Luiz Felipe Scolari, the legendary Brazilian coach, will be overtaken by Abel this year, as Scolari spent four seasons with Verdão between 1997 and 2000. Abel joined Palmeiras in November 2020 and has since secured titles in each of his years with the club. The Portuguese coach is just two trophies away from becoming the manager with the most victories in the club’s history.
Currently, Abel has nine trophies, while Oswaldo Brandão holds the record with 10 titles for the Greatest Champion of Brazil.
